PMI OPM3 Special Interest Group (SIG) on LinkedIn

The OPM3 Special Interest Group (SIG) on LinkedIn is the most active online community of people discussing PMI's Organizational Project Management Maturity Model. This young SIG focuses exclusively on OPM3 and has nearly 1,000 participants.

OPM3 is designed to help organizations develop the capabilities necessary to execute strategy through projects successfully, consistently, and predictably. The OPM3 SIG is for anyone interested in the PMI's OPM3, both those who are new to the topic and those who are experts. The OPM3 SIG welcomes anyone to engage in any discussion on any aspect of OPM3.

This group was created by and is managed by John Schlichter, who led the original OPM3 Program on the PMI's behalf 1998 - 2002 and was later hired by PMI to help develop the OPM3 Professional certification and OPM3 ProductSuite.

In addition to the main discussion group, the SIG offers the following sub-groups:

  • OPM3 Health Care Group
  • OPM3 Financial Services & Insurance Group
  • OPM3 in Government Group
  • OPM3 Management Consulting Group
  • OPM3 Research Group
  • OPM3 Defense Industry Group
  • OPM3 Marketing Team
  • OPM3 Technology, Media, and Telco Industry Group
  • OPM3 Lean Six Sigma Group
  • OPM3 Energy Industry Group

Rules for the group include the following:

1. Please do not post topics, discussions, or comments unrelated to OPM3. Organizational Project Management (OPM) is the conjunction of Portfolio, Program, and Project Management (and other subjects defined in PMI's OPM3 Standard). The OPM3 Standard defines OPM and how to make OPM capable, and that is the topic of this SIG. The SIG is not reinventing OPM, but it is elaborating it. Feel free to explore topics pertaining to Project, Program, and Portfolio Management (and how to improve these things) on this board, but please do so in a way that is related to OPM3. If you do not know how your topic relates to OPM3, just ask. You will find this community to be both friendly and helpful.

2. You do not need to be either an expert or a fan of OPM3 to join the discussions. Criticisms are welcome provided they are constructive and respectful of others.

3. Please review the discussions to see if your topic is already being discussed, and join that discussion group. If you have a question or comment unrelated to a topic that someone else has posted, please do not post your question or comment in that person's topic. If you have a new question or topic, you may create a new topic within the discussion board. Maintaining the threads of the discussions helps everyone to find what interests them easily and efficiently.

OPM3 is a registered mark of PMI Inc. PMI does not endorse or support this group in any manner. While this special interest group focuses on the discussion of the use of PMI standards, and has among its members thought leaders and well known practitioners, the group does not represent PMI in any official capacity. The views expressed in this group are those of the respective authors who post those views within the group and do not reflect the official policy or position of PMI.
