Deloitte - Managing the Largest Privileged Access / Identity Management Program in America

In partnership with Deloitte, we spearheaded the largest Privileged Access and Identity Management program in America for T-Mobile, demonstrating unmatched expertise in complex program management. This collaboration achieved unprecedented security levels and set new industry standards for identity and access management. Through strategic planning, meticulous execution, and exceptional coordination, OPM Experts LLC ensured the program's success, showcasing our ability to navigate and deliver on high-stakes projects, making us a premier choice for organizations aiming to secure and optimize their IT infrastructure.

Team
OPM Experts led one of the largest enterprise-wide Privileged Access / Identity Management programs in the nation. This was one of the largest and most important IT initiatives in the company and was sponsored by the CIO. I worked with them from the proposal phase through the negotiation of the statement of work and through the actual functional and technical design phases. They applied unparalleled knowledge of project management to the endeavor, resulting in many benefits. They were always efficient, fair, and responsive. They got ahead of several problems before they became full blown issues and kept the large and extended team focused and moving along towards meeting the milestone dates as planned. It was a pleasure working with them, and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.

If you are tasked with delivering an exceedingly complex program, it’s good to have partners.

Challenge

When T-Mobile decided to implement a Privileged Access / Identity and Access Management platform, OPM Experts’ founder John Schlichter partnered with Deloitte to implement T-Mobile’s strategy through a program of multiple project teams that included over one hundred personnel. Identity Management, also known as Identity and Access Management (IAM) is a computer security discipline that "enables the right individuals to access the right resources at the right times and for the right reasons.” It addresses the need to ensure appropriate access to resources across increasingly heterogeneous technology environments and to meet increasingly rigorous compliance requirements.

Solution

We translated T-Mobile’s corporate and business strategies into an IAM program strategy. We facilitated articulation of a Master Service Agreement (MSA) between T-Mobile and Deloitte, and then created a governance structure composed of executives from both companies. We led them through development of comprehensive program plans based on iterative life cycle principles that enabled learning and reduced risks. We brokered approval to baseline the plans and then managed those plans successfully for one year before handing the program off.

I was on the steering committee for T-Mobile’s IAM Program. OPM Expets’ knowledge of program management and business etiquette was nothing short of outstanding. Their ability to manage the critical path was phenomenal. At times the program seemed destined to stall, but they ensured that people were committed to moving it forward. Additionally, they have an amazing capacity to keep meetings on track without offending the long-winded or belligerent. In all my time in the industry I’ve never seen a program management expert as effective as OPM Experts.

Results

T-Mobile achieved a level of identity and access management security that was unprecedented in its history, and enjoyed acclaim throughout industry for having successfully implemented one of the largest IAM programs of any company in America to date.

If you can put a name on a black box, OPM Experts can manage it within a global enterprise. They demonstrated exceptional skills in project management at an enterprise level in some extremely technical areas. They were able to coordinate both C level executives and software engineers, bringing high risk technical projects to a successful landing in production. Beyond the typical types of endorsements that I could give about their skills and experience, I would emphasize that they were successful in building new systems and technologies within politically resistant infrastructures. They are very experienced in the technical tools of project management and can effectively use them to coordinate diverse departments and personnel. They are effective in resolving issues and building communications between people who must build new infrastructure and bring new technologies into production. And in the process, they employ a mentoring approach to allow people and processes to work together in a more focused manner. OPM Experts gets results. I highly recommend them.
